U11's match report .....

Marden U11's completed the League and Cup double on Monday morning beating LBH by 10 runs in a hard fought, high scoring encounter . Having won the toss and electing to bat first Marden openers Henry Taggart and Jacob Smith put on 20 in their 4 overs against some quick , hostile bowling .

Wilf Andrews and Callum O'Brien added a solid partnership of 10 to keep things ticking over . The next pairing of Henry Young and Elliot Aitken set about destroying the bowling scoring 45 runs in their 4 overs ( however they lost 15 of these with each batsman getting out once and one run out ).

Henry Spain-Warner and Jack Sunnucks were next and put together another solid partnership of 29 . Finally Theo Kinnersley and Alex Moen saw the score pass 300 as they put on another 29 runs in the last 4 overs ( after being docked 12 runs for Theo losing his wicket twice).

Marden finished on a very good total of 308-5 off their 20 overs ( Starting at 200 ) with all players contributing extremely well . Top scorers Theo Kinnersley 26 ( 14 nett ) , Henry Young 22 (16 nett) and Henry Spain-Warner 15 .

The LBH innings started cautiously but with the Marden bowlers failing to take wickets early on ( except 2 run outs worth -3 each) pressure soon mounted and after 12 overs things were looking tight with LBH needing a run a bowl for victory and their batsmen seeming to be on top . However the tables turned on the introduction of Henry Taggart and Henry Spain-Warner into the attack when both bowlers got 2 wickets each ( providing -24 runs ) .

This seemed to establish panic in LBH's ranks and there where then 2 decisive run outs . The first a brilliant 4 man effort with Henry Taggart making a diving stop on the boundary , the alert Callum O'Brien ( having given chase ) throwing the ball into the keeper ( Jack Sunnucks ) who in turn threw the ball to the bowlers end for Henry Spain-Warner to run out the batsman. The second a brilliant throw by Wilf Andrews straight over the bowlers end stumps for Elliot Aitken to take and run the batsman out . With the amount of damage done by these lost wickets it came down to LBH needing 24 off the last over . Henry Young then got the wobbles bowling a stream of wides , before composing himself and Marden eventually ran out winners by 10 runs .

Pick of the bowlers Henry Spain-Warner 2 overs 2 for 7 , Wilf Andrews 3 overs 0 for just 7 runs .

Well done to the whole team as it was a fantastic effort . A special thank you to Alex Walker for being our 11th man and to all the supporters who turned up to cheer our boys on.

Can i also congratulate the whole squad this year for their efforts at training and in all matches . We couldn't have had the success this year without the constant support from all players, parents , groundsmen , barstaff , admin and everyone else for all their input too .

And finally a special mention to my fellow coaches who have help out this year , we are a very lucky club to have the talent of these individuals and it has been a pleasure for me as i am sure for all the coaches to help bring up , what i am sure will be , a fine group of cricketers for the future. Teaching these 9, 10 and 11 year olds is a far better cure for a hangover than neurofen ( well most of the time ).

Thank you all , Paul

League Week 18

1stXI take win at Lenham
2ndXI fall to Cobham

Marden 1st team V Lenham

I was kindly reinstated as skipper by Matt, who has done a sterling job during my absence. I won the toss and asked Lenham to bat.

Sam Courtley and Ben Tomkinson opened the bowling and immediately asked questions of the Lenham openers. Courtley removed the Lenham skipper Gray for 6 caught behind by Julian Boucher. Tomkinson quickly took the wickets of the number 2 and 3 batsmen bowled and caught by Courtley respectively. Lenham re grouped and put together a 4th wicket partnership that looked like pushing their total to a respectable score after the stuttering start. The introduction of Harry Karim, bowling up the slope, was about to change that. Harry broke the partnership and beguiled the incoming late order batsmen with drift, swing and the flight that has brought him lots of wickets this year. Arun Samuel took two good catches and Martin Taplin a towering catch to give Harry three wickets. Courtley returned to take 2 more wickets and tidy spells by Blythin, Samuel and Thomas restricted Lenham to 154 for 8 off 45 overs.

Hunter and Burdge opened. The skipper lasted 3 balls, like last year 4, swish then caught by 1st slip after the keeper had spilled the chance!! No problems Taplin came in and attacked the Lenham bowling making 15 but Burdge and Tomkinson played two brilliant innings to win the game easily off 32 overs. Burdge unbeaten on 71, and jug avoidance from Tomkinson 46 who deserved 50. Dai Thomas hit two 4’s to win the game.

After losing the toss and being asked bowl first things looked good after 18 overs. John Hancock, Dan and Will kept the Cobham batsman quiet and they stood at 45 for 2. The Cobham skipper got going and never looked back as the game swing towards them from the 19 over mark. James took some punishment and was unlucky as the normally reliable Rupert dropped the 1st of the teams 5 dropped catches. The removal of the skipper at that point could have had a big impact on the game. A mention for will who bowled his full quota of 12 overs for the 1st time this season and bowled with good control getting 2 wickets for 40 of his 12. Gareth finished off one end and ended withr 1 wicket for 63 off 11. This doesn't do any justice to Gareth who had 4 catches dropped and a very good LBW shout turned down. Dan and John returned form the opposite end and both ended up with 3 wickets a piece, John figures of 3 for 21 form 11 and Dan 3 for 33 from 8. Cobham ended with 204 for 9 from their 45 overs.
The Marden innings never got going as numbers 2,3,4 and 5 amassed a stagging 3 runs between them. The skipper went for 15 and John Hancock for 13 and Richard Thomas for 23. The only star of the innings was young Rob Wickham who came in to make us up to 11 on Saturday morning and top scored 31 and kept wicket very tidily including a very good catch to give Gareth his wicket. The rest of the batsman fell short as well to leave us with a total of 125 all out a loss of 79 runs.
