XI V's Eynesford - Won by 44 Runs
After the frustration of the cancelled game at
Milstead it was good to get out on the pitch and
in blazing temperatures this was a good toss to
win! There was clearly some inexperience in the
Eynesford ranks but enough old hands to cause
us plenty of problems particularly if they held
their catches as they did! Chris and Harry opened
the innings and put on a useful partnership of
37 before Harry played all round a straight one
for 12 and soon after Chris pulled hard to mid
wicket. Chris looked in good nick playing some
nice shots off his legs in his score of 29.
McCafferty
& Bardsley added 50 together both using their
feet well against the off spin of Ian Pound who
had begun to put the brakes on the Marden innings
ending with excellent figures of 1 wicket for
25 of his 12 over's. Chris was bowled through
the gate but Nigel marched serenely on aided (only
briefly) by Sam and James White but more notably
by RDH and James Humphrey who scored 17 and 27
not out respectively. Nigel was eventually caught
for 83 including 12 4's and a 6. The chairman
struck a mighty blow for 6 into the orchard and
Gareth and John Murray also added valuable runs
to take the Marden total to 214 which was really
only par in the circumstances. The skipper was
happy to rest his "dodgy" back and did
not bat.
With
the wicket flattening out Ford set off at a good
pace against some enthusiastic bowling from Murray
and James White who we are delighted to see back
in Marden colours. John bowled well particularly
in his second spell and was unlucky not to get
a wicket and James ended with excellent figures
of 3 for 26 in his 12 over's.
Then
Harry bowled one of the "longest" over's
of his career which tested the umpire and Simon
in the score box to their limits! Harry's net
but positive contribution to runs scored in the
game was 4 so I will leave the mathematicians
amongst you to work out the extras which his over
produced. Chris McCafferty steadied the ship deceiving
their number 3 bat with a beautifully flighted
delivery and Sam deserved better than his 1 for
45 after a long sweaty spell from the village
end which softened up the tail leaving Gareth
to pick up 3 wickets for very few in the final
couple of over's. Chris Watts with a brace, RHD
and the skipper all held their catches and we
won in the end by 44 runs.
Thank
you Simon for scoring and getting the temperature
in the bath spot on. All 11 Players jumped in
en-mass and suddenly the early season aches and
pains disappeared!! Our sympathies to Chris McCafferty
who left the field with a reoccurrence of his
knee injury which will sadly curtail his new found
bowling career for a bit.
Gareth
took some excellent photographs and we will try
and get some of these on the website in due course.
The team for Cobham

:

Dai
can you and Nav double up and we will all meet
at the ground in Cobham at 1.00pm at the latest.
Coming from the A2 go along Cobham high street
past the ship pub on your right. The entrance
to the ground is a narrow track between the houses
just before the high street narrows. I don't think
it is signed but it is right next door to the
bowls club if anybody gets lost. Beers in the
Raglan on the way home and then the club. Chris
MC and Nick B rest your knees and get fit when
you can.
As
ever only ring or email the captains if you cannot
make the games for any reason. Keep your mobiles
switched on in case of inclement weather!!!
