U11's at home to Linton Park May 14th

Marden U11's vs Linton Park U11's ...... A very strong Marden team batted first in a one sided affair scoring 336 for 3 top score from Henry Spain-Warner of 24 . What followed next was a most amazing bowling performance with Linton Park ending up 176 for 13 ( remember teams start at 200 and lose 6 runs for each wicket ) star of the show being Henry Taggart who returned figures of 7 wickets for 11 runs in 4 overs including a hat trick , all wickets clean bowled.

League Week 3

1ST XI TEAM VICTORIOUS-2ND TEAM HUMBLED

1st XI beat Selsted at home

The skipper lost the toss and was asked to bat. The squad had an early boost by the inclusion of Sam Courtley, who replaced the ever willing but not fully fit Pete Hopkisson. Sunnucks T and Brewer opened the innings and put on 70 for the first wicket. Rich Brewer fell for 38 followed shortly by Tony Sunnucks 47 possible jug avoidance!!

Sunnucks P 25, Nick Burdge 26, Dai Thomas 10 helped push the score along before Sam Courtley 28 not out, Arun Samuel 7 and Ben Tompkinson 13 not out produced some fine hitting to get us to 211 for 6.

On a pitch receptive to seam bowling this total was always going to be a tough total. It was made even more difficult by Sam Courtley taking the new ball and Peter Hill’s money with a fabulous 6 for 37, ably supported by Arun Samuel 3 for 30. Paul Sunnucks took a hat trick of fine slip catches to help Sam to the £50. Marden 1st XI registered their first victory of 2009 with a massive 141 run margin. A special thanks to Rich Brewer (last minute wicket keeper) and Pete Hopkisson for being available whilst injured.

2nd XI away to Eynsford

After losing the toss and being asked to bat first the Marden innings went from bad to worse. With so many disasters it’s best to gloss over the lows and be positive and to concentrate on the highs. James Humphrey was the only batsman to score with any freedom and as such top scored with 21 the only other batsmen to reach double figures were John Rogers 18 and Richard Thomas 10. Other highlights of the innings included a last wickets stand between the elder statesman of the team, Simon and Pete, who frustrated the Eynsford team by lasting 11 overs and scoring an extra 15 runs. Champagne moment of the innings was Simon’s thumping lofted off drive for 4 putting the top order batsman to shame.

Protecting 81 was always a tough ask. Nav opened the innings and was rewarded immediately with the 1st wicket in the 1st over the Chairman taking the catch at square leg. Opening the other end Lampard removed the other opener 1st ball with a rank long hop slapped straight to Ben Bardsley. The Eynsford innings continued were Marden left off losing wickets regularly Nav picked up 2 bowling a good straight line and Lampard getting 4 from his 12 overs going for only 23 runs. 1st change bowler and new signing Jon Hancock bowled well and with decent pace. Jon was extremely unlucky to not pick up a wicket and only conceded 18 runs from his 9 overs. Gareth bowled 4 overs for 12 runs and John Rogers 2 overs for 10 runs. Unable to break the 8th wicket partnership the Eynsford skipper saw his side home to give them a 4 wicket win. A great effort to defend a small target but we just couldn’t get through the last few.
A special mention must go the teas which were superb and the highlight of the Match.
