CRICKET RESULTS - Friendly v Sissinghurst April

On a very green wicket the skipper lost the first toss of the season and we were asked to field. Arun struggled to find a consistent line early on as he worked off the rust of the winter. Ben was straight into his stride and bowled 5 overs for only 10 runs and was unlucky not to pick up a wicket as he went passed the outside edge a number of times. Arun settled into a good rhythm in his last couple of overs.

Steve and Dai replaced the opening pair after 5 overs each and bowled with the control we all expect. Steve picked Marden’s 1st wicket of the season as George Thomas held on well to hard driven shot. This pair were replace by Harry and our new signing John Rogers. John bowled a good line of sharp in swingers that hopefully we will see throughout the season and was unlucky not to squeeze one through the Sissinghurst defences. Harry nearly took what would have been the catch of the season as return from his bowling was rifled back at him. But later he was rewarded and accepted an easier return chance. Rich Brewer and Gareth replaced Harry and John. Richard picking up one before George Thomas finished of the innings bowling with good control.

The Sissinghurst total of 238 for 3 was always going to be tough ask and certainly didn't help that the Captain edged the 5 ball of the 1st over to slip for a big fat zero. With exception Richard (25), John (27) and Arun (16) everybody else failed to reach double figures.

The highlight of the innings was the Captain trying to explain the rules of cricket to two Dutch women who left more confused than before the crash course in the laws of the game. Steve helped by speaking slowly and loudly as only the British can.
