Double Wins
1st XI beat Willesborough
2nd XI take Headcorn

DOUBLE WIN CONTINUES GOOD RUN

1st XI - Beat Willesborough (H) by 3 wkts
Having won the toss Marden asked Willesborough to bat first on what seemed to be a two paced wicket . Courtley and Tomkinson opened the bowling with Courtley finding success in the 1st over caught behind only not to be given out and again the batsman failing to walk. Tomkinson struggled to cope with the severe slope at Marden and was replaced by Mills after just three overs . Willesborough progressed fairly briskly from a number of flying outside edges and mows across the line but the wickets started to fall at a steady rate with Julian Boucher at keeper taking a fine catch off Courtley , although Sunnucks at first slip had it covered! . After Courtley's opening spell he was replaced by Tomkinson whom now bowling down the afore mentioned severe slope bowled with pace and aggression . Success came with a fine wide full toss which the Willesborough skipper smashed off the inside edge into his stumps . Samuel replaced Mills and the Marden fielders decided that the easiest way to get wickets was to drop a dolly of a catch so as to run out the better batsman at the other end . Firstly by Thomas and later by Mills. Samuel bowled with good control and after conceding just 13 runs off 5 overs was replaced by Mattinson . Having being hoicked off middle and off for four a couple of times his line and length paid dividends when clean bowling one batsman and getting another plump L.B.W. Meanwhile the three young quickies where rotated at the other end with continued success for each of them. Finally Mattinson got the last two wickets firstly with another fine catch by Boucher and secondly a diving caught and bowled to leave him on a hatrick the next ball he bowls and figures of 8.3 overs 4 for 20 . Willesborough 168 all out .

Mardens reply start well with Burdge smashing 10 off the first over however he , Thomas and Sunnucks all went cheaply and we found ourselves 30-3 . To the rescue came Rupert Humpreys and Mortimer , Humphreys playing and missing with undue care seemed to upset the opposition captain but slowly he managed to find the edge of the bat and then the middle . Mortimer seemed to find the middle from the start and these two added 80 odd but on losing humphreys for 35 and then Samuel and Mills cheaply and then Mortimer for 65 , sweating on the inside of your contact lens does not help the seeing of the ball apparently , It was left to Tomkinson and Courtley to get the last 25 runs or so which they did with an array of drives and pulls. Marden eventually winning by 3 wkts and 3 overs to spare. A hard fought good victory .Bring on Leeds and Bradford!!! this Saturday. Rgds The stand in skipper

2nd XI Beat Headcorn (A)

After a stressful week the fact that we managed to get 2 teams out felt like a victory even before we had taken the field. After a senior player think tank the skipper won the toss and used the advice given and elected to bowl 1st. John and George took the new ball and found some early movement. Both bowled well and even though the batsman scored quickly they both took wickets. George finding the outside edge and the skipper managed to hang on to both. Scott took the catch to give John his 1st wicket of the day and removed the bails of another to cap a very good day with the ball. Unfortunately John turned his ankle in the crater made by his front foot and ended his spell prematurely. Dan took over from George and bowled with good control in his 4 overs. Kieran took over from John for his 1st bowl in senior cricket and got good movement and had the batsman edging him wide of the slips. Gareth took over from Dan and Sam relived Kieran of his bowling duties. Gareth bowled with good control and was unlucky to not get a wicket in his 1st over the ball just slipping through the normally reliable Scott’s hands. Gareth ended up with 3 wickets which remarkably included a stumping from the skipper, a sight for those who were there to cherish as it’s rarer than rocking horse manure. Sam collect 3 wickets as he put the squeeze on the Headcorn batsman and slowed the run rate, picking up his last wicket in the last over and restricting the total to 199 all out.

Sam and the skipper opened the batting for Marden taking the responsibility of trying to keep to the rate of 4.5 and not give away any wickets. Sam kept scoring quickly as the skipper anchored one end apart from the occasional swish and miss. Sam continued to score regularly making his partner run numerous 2’s and 3’s. Eventually the skipper went for 49 and an opening stand of 154 setting up the chance of a victory. George came and went quickly stumped again for 4. Sam soon followed him stumped as well for 96, another classy, chanceless (yeah right!!!!!!) innings from Sam taking his tally for the season to over 400. Scott and Will finished the game. Both batted with caution before Will opened up with some big hitting, including a 6, to give us a total of 203. Scott ending 22 not out and Will 17 not out. A very good win! The skipper would like to thank all the players who turned out on Saturday but an extra huge thank you to Scott, Simon, Kieran and Chris Terry for offering their services late in the week and ensuring the game went ahead and allow us to win 30 points.

No 2's game this week so all welcome up the club to put some money behind the bar!

If you are not available please contact either myself Chris Watts or Matt Blythin ASAP so we can settle the lines up’s as early as possible and fill anybody who drop’s out.
