Week 14
1st XI had no game
2nd
XI game v Sheldwich abandoned due to rain
Weather spoils Ryan’s debut
Losing the toss for the 2nd time in one week Marden were
asked to bat 1st again. Harry and the skipper opened the
batting and the pair were soon back in the changing room
with the score on 22 both caught. James hit 3 fours on
his way to 16 and was starting to look like he was going
to score some very valuable runs but was bowled before
he really got going. Ryan got a shocker of a ball that
never got more than 2 inches of the surface and struck
him front LBW. Jon Jones fell for 1. Nigel looked relaxed
driving straight and true before chasing a very wide one
and was caught for 32. The bowler was Matt Blythin (that
really was his name) and we thought there was only ONE!!
Sam continued with his fine form and even with an injured
toe (he’d stuck a fork in it earlier in the week)
and scored another classy 57. John Rogers chipped in with
a very useful 18. Gareth scored 4 with Dan and Steve added
1 a piece before Dan was caught and the innings closed
on 173.
Steve and James opened the bowling and James picked up
the only wicket we managed to collect before the rain
came. Steve bowled 9 overs, 4 maidens for only 11 runs.
Ryan only managed to squeeze in 3 overs before the end
of the game but showed real pace and control and was unlucky
not to have a wicket as one flew threw to Sam at slip
who did well to get a hand on it in the gathering gloom.
The rain came and the game was abandoned after only 17
overs of the Sheldwich innings.
If you are not available please contact
either myself
Chris Watts or Matt
Blythin ASAP so we can settle the lines up’s
as early as possible and fill anybody who drop’s
out.
Regards
Chris
