League Week 13

1st XI take Milstead
2nd XI

Once again managing to win the toss, Marden elected to take the field first - a key moment in the game on what was a drying wicket. Blythin and Samuel put the Milstead openers under pressure with a controlled spell, before both openers went, one to a towering catch held by Ward and the other held by Sunnucks at Gully, both off Blythin. Milstead were never able to settle throughout the match, finding it difficult to hit it off the square. Great bowling by Thomas and Mattison in the middle of the innings rewarded with a wicket for each, was continued by the returning T Sunnucks - finishing with 4 for 28 off 7, including a well held catch by Taplin (making amends for the previous week) and a stunning one handed caught and bowled effort. A total of 19 maidens from the 45 overs said it all, Milstead finishing 141 for 9. The Marden reply got off to a cracking start, with 18 being hit of the opening 2 overs. Once the bowlers found their line however, the wicket again proved difficult to play, although Sunnucks and Burdge kept the score ticking over amassing an impressive 100 run partnership before Nick finally went, gloving behind for 58. With only 42 required, there followed a mini collapse with 4 wickets going for just 7 runs. That was until Thomas joined Tony at the wicket, steadying the ship and steering Marden to victory with 2 overs to spare. Tony finishing on 69 not out, Marden winning by 6 wickets. Thats 4 from 5 and another solid team effort with bat and ball - a week off now to recharge the batteries before making it 5 from 6 at West Farlegh! No 1st team game this week they get a very well deserved break.
