Mid Term Report U13s

The season started poorly with not enough players in the squad with the result that we had to concede the first game resulting in our elimination from the cup. The boys pulled together though, roped in some friends and now we have a settled squad of 13 players. However, we are still open to new recruits.

Our first game was against a strong Staplehurst team who beat us by 61 runs. We then played Cranbrook and decided to bat first, and got what we thought was a winning total of 98 runs, Tom Bonney 33, Ollie Jarrett 18 n.o. and Kieran Pantrey 17 n.o. It was not to be as Cranbrook knocked them off for the loss of two wickets assisted by some wayward bowling which gave them 29 extras.

I am not sure what happened to the team over the next seven days until our game with Sissinghurst when we bowled them out for 35. Dan Ashton 4 for 6 and Adam Budd 2 for 7. However these boys always want life to be difficult and we lost 5 wickets getting them, 14 n.o. Tom Bonney.

Next up was Loose and we restricted them to 59 for 9 from 20 overs with Michael Murrey getting 2 for 2. We knocked off the runs for loss of 4 wickets with Dan Ashton 21 n.o. and Adam Budd 24 n.o.

Last night we had what looked like our toughest game of the season at L.B.H. They reached 120 from their 20 overs, Tom Bonney 4 for 20 and Jack Bain 1 for 10. It proved to be 20 too many for us despite a patient 39 from Tom Bonney and a lusty 34 n.o. from Adam Budd.

The team can look forward to the rest of the season in good spirit.

League Week 7

1st XI tumble at Willesborough
2nd XI score win at home v Milstead with double ton

Following another frantic week of ringing and emailing round, a full side of 11 managed to take the field where we chose to bowl having won the toss. The home team got off to a solid start despite a good opening spell from Tomkinson although the partnership was finally broken by Harry Baby continuing his fine form with the ball. After a couple of chances put down, the other opener finally went Ct Thomas bowled Samuel. Not for the first time against us this season a dubious moment once again followed with the entire team hearing what sounded very much like a nic behind, but he wasn't given and didn't walk ("what was the noise then?" cried Harry!!). Despite a fine effort in the field all round, a strong partnership was formed, broken finally by the safe hands of Ward off Tomkinson. Three wickets in the final over provided some consolation with Willesborough scoring 254 for 7 off 45 very long overs!

The Marden reply never really got going with a steady loss of wickets faltering progress. Resistance was offered by Samuel with a fine 31 and a good partnership shared with Ward (17) guiding us to respectability, but the Marden innings eventually finished 104 all out.

A special thank you once again to all those who stepped up at short notice including Clive Baxter who left with a pulled hamstring to show for his efforts and James Etheridge playing his first ever competitive game! Hopefully injuries can start clearing up and availability improves for next week to get back to winning ways.

1st Team away to Leeds and Broomfield 1.30 start. We have tried to pick the strongest and most mobile 11 for the 1st team this week. Thank you to all the players who have stepped up from the 2’s to help ensure games went ahead.
