Week 9
1st
XI score memorable home victory over Lenham
2nds XI go down with fight at Linton
1st Report. After winning the toss and deciding to bat,
Marden got off to a fine start thanks once again to a
great knock from Burdge. With support offered by Bardsley
until falling LBW, a solid partnership developed with
Humphrey. This was ended after putting on 62 together,
Burdge going for one big hit too far, caught at mid-off,
leaving us well placed on 150 for 4. With 200 plus beckoning,
the usual Marden collapse followed finishing 169 all out,
including a good 36 from Rupert, giving the visitors an
extra 3 overs in the process.
Like Marden, Lenham got off to a good start, despite Samuel's
best efforts and swing. Arun was however eventually rewarded
with the wickets of both openers, both finding the outside
edge behind to Bardsley. Ward and Dai Thomas continued
to apply the pressure required, Gareth getting two thoroughly
deserved wickets and Thomas four before Arun came back
to finish the job off and take the final wicket caught
and bowled. Marden winning by 34 runs.
A great team effort - Burdge and Humphrey with the bat,
Arun, Dai and Gareth with the ball and everyone in the
field - catches being held!

2nd's Report. After the Captain lost the toss the Linton
Skipper didn’t hesitate to put us in the field.
George and Dan opened the bowling attack to probably give
Marden its youngest opening pair outside of the colts.
Both bowled well and George picked the 1st wicket, James
Blyhtin hanging on to a good catch as the batsman fell
into the captains trap (no honestly it really was a trap).
The travesty of Dan only able to bowl 4 overs in a spell
brought Will on 1st change. Will struggled with the slope
and was unlucky as George left his catching mitts at home.
Will was replaced by another youngest Ted Hodges. Ted
bowled well and was rewarded with a wicket, George plucking
the ball one handed at square leg. Ted was replaced by
Pete who struggled and was very much to the liking of
the Linton batsman. Jon Jones bowled a full 12 overs picking
up one wicket a superb effort considering he has only
played one game this season so far. George and Dan both
finished of the innings and both ended up putting another
batsman back in the pavilion. Dan ended up with figures
of 7 overs, 1 maiden, 1 for 31. George finished 2 wickets,
1 maiden for 41 from 11 overs a great effort. Linton finished
on 261 for 6.
George opened the batting with the skipper and some very
tight bowling by Linton kept the scoring down. George
started to straight drive the Linton bowlers. George finished
on 27 caught at slip. The Skipper soon followed for 19,
Will added 27 before the real star of the Marden innings
came to the crease, Ian Hodges. Ian crashed the Linton
bowlers to the boundary on regular basis especially when
they feed him his favourite shot a back foot cover drive.
He scored a classy and very important 87 not out. Sam
Robinson added 19 not out. The Marden total was 210 for
4 of 45 overs. 8 Points gained by a very inexperienced
team, a tremendous effort by all 11 players who turned
out. A huge thank you from the skipper to all of those
who stepped in and ensured that the game went ahead rather
than forfeiting the fixture.
