RESULTS - Friendly v Sissinghurst April
On a day which is normally memorable for the number
of jumpers that have to be worn, this occasion bucked
the trend by being played in glorious spring weather.
Marden put Sissinghurst into bat and were ultimate punished
by the actions of one players who initially bludgeoned
balls to all corners of the ground. As time went on
he found his touch and a mere flick of the wrists was
sufficient to land the ball a good 10 yards outside
the ropes.
Chasing 230 from 40 overs was always a big ask. The
inital partnership of Brandreth and Watts starting in
steady form. Tony Mortimer raised faint hopes with some
thrilling batting that included 24 off one over and
three consecutive 6's, all of which landed within 12
inches of the boundary - meaning no one had to search
for the balls. Unfortunately Tony fell for a gallant
56.
Marden left the game with 180 ish on the scoreboard,
and definately 2nd. The nine dropped catches meant we
were architects of our own downfall.
We look forward to the first league games this week.
