CRICKET RESULTS – 2nd August 2008 – LEAGUE WEEK 14

1st XI v Cobham

I won the toss and elected to bat on a green wicket which proved to be an error. However after being 18 for 5 off 20 overs!!!!!!!!!! Paul Sunnucks hit a magnificent 69 finally being bowled off his throat by a spin bowler!! We set a total of 131, quite remarkable considering the start. We took wickets all through the Cobham reply with Matt Blythin and Arun Samuel exposing the middle order. But the Cobham opening bowler Clear came in to win the game with some direct hitting, we were probably 30 runs short on a very poor pitch, ending up losing by 2 wickets.

2nd XI Match Report v Linton Park at home

The skipper won the toss and decieded to bat on damp wicket. After losing John Jones early the team tried to grind out a defendable score. Losing cheap wickets all through the innings only the skipper with 34, Nigel with 29 and Gareth making 21 really making any impression on the Linton Park bowling. It must be said that the linton park bolwers coped well with the conditions and there skipper Tim Thirkwell bowled 12 overs, with 6 maidens getting 2 for 13. The real star for the marden innings was extras who waded in with a very valuable 33 and giving us a total of 160. Resuming after tea the luck didn’t run our way, Sam Courtney bowled a quick spell and was unlucky not to have had the openers trapped LBW. The Linton Park openers quickly adapted to the wicket and scored a good rate in the chase for the runs. Just when it seemed we were going to lose by 10 wickets Gareth found a good line. He drew the left handed opener down the wicket and Nigel did the rest but his 78 was the difference between the teams. Wardy went on to take 4 wickets for 54 form his 12 and 1 each for John Jones and Sam Courtney. Linton Park ran out the winners by 4 wickets with 5 overs to spare.

There is no Second team match this week as we have hit hard by the holiday season. Richard will be back in charge next week so please let him know if you are available for the 16th.
