CRICKET RESULTS – 9th August 2008 – LEAGUE WEEK 15

Marden 1st XI V’s Willsborough – Marden win by 101 Runs

With the skipper away at a family wedding, Tony (Mushy) Sunnucks took over on what proved to be an amazing day in more ways than one. Tony won the toss and elected to bat in a reduced 35 over game. The weather was threatening to intervene from the word go but Sunnucks T 75, Withers Green 33, Taplin 43, Burge not out 17 got us to a formidable 203. Marden took to the field with Courtney and Mattison opening the bowling wickets came quickly with Sam Courtney taking 2 for 35 of 7 overs and Steve Mattison taking 3 for 44 of 10. However, Tony (Mushy) Sunnucks bowled himself to a fine 5 for 8 of 5 overs, Sam Courtney taking 2 good catches. Willesborough were bowled out 101 runs short. A great performance to stop our recent 3 match run of poor form.

Its not often we see the team without a Sunnocks on board so good luck to everybody at Horton Kirby. It is good to see Chris McCafferty up where he belongs, and great to see Sam Courtney earning his spurs in the first team.

Marden 2nd XI

A massive thank you to Chris for organising the side for the Linton game. Wardy nearly bowled us back into the match (he likes Linton as I think he got four wickets last year) but as so often this season one opening batsman hung around, got runs and won the game.

Whether the Rumwood game would have gone ahead with the poor weather remains to be seen, but we had already withdrawn in good time because of lack of players.

It would be nice to finish the season with a couple of wins. Headcorn and Meopham are both at home and they are both very beatable.

Wardy please can you bring the score book to the game and without fail we must get a team photograph this week.

As ever only let me know if you cannot play and if I have missed anybody out this week I will try to get you in for the Meopham game.

Nav and Sam A are you fit?
