Apologies

Because I have been found out as a technological pygmy

page for pictures, Gareth has wisely set up a proper
site to show off some pictures associated to the club.
This can be found if you click on: www.flickr.com/photos/mardencc

As
this site has been going for around 12 months, its probably
the right time to ask people what they want from it that
they dont get at the moment.
Suggestions so far:
A) Young cricketers, and especially parents want to download
the required documents to formally register for the next
season.
B) Images of people and events.
C) More up to date news.
If you have any suggestions, click E-mail
to email me with your view or what you want and why.

| Introduction
to Marden Cricket Club
|
|
We
are of course the 'Cricket' element of MCHC -or the Marden
Cricket & Hockey
Club. If you click on the 'Hockey' link, you are taken
directly to their website.
The hockey team play as the Marden Russets who currently
support:
2 Ladies teams
3 Senior Mens team plus a Vets side
Under 8's - mixed, Under 10's mixed, Under 12's Boys &
Girls, Under 14's Boys and Girls and Under 16's Boys and
Girls teams.
Marden Cricket Club is proud to have an extensive history.
In the Maidstone Museum there is an old scorebook of a
match between Bearstead and Marden from 1789! And in 1975
a side reached the semi finals of the National Village
Knock Out Cup. After a memorable trip to Cornwall for
players and supporters, Marden were narrowly defeated.
For those of an inquisitive nature, the 'Russets' name
is taken from the apples that are grown with such distinction
around the Marden area. In fact, a number of current members
of Marden Cricket & Hockey Club are actively involved
in cultivating, picking, sorting and marketing award winning
fruit.

| Sponsors |
|
We
know times are tough for plenty of businesses,
but we none the less want to put a notice out there to
all current and potential sponsors. We are open to offers
from organisations or individuals who want to be associated
in some way to the Marden Russets.
As this site develops, we want to be able to highlight
the organisations that support the club. In return, we
will offer links to your own website and details of your
services on some or all of these pages.
Please contact the Cricket Club Chairman, James
Humphrey if you are interested in making a difference.

| Notes
from the League relating to the Spirit of Cricket |
|
The notes below came direct from the League as a guide.
If you play, please take a moment to read, take on board,
and apply them when you represent the club. I hope to
see this document clearly posted in the club shortly.
James Humphrey
Cricket Club Chairman
Aid to Captains and Club Officials
THE LAWS OF CRICKET - THE SPIRIT OF CRICKET
THAT EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW
Cricket is a game that owes much of its unique appeal
to the fact that it should be played not only within
its Laws but also within the Spirit of the Game. Any
action which is seen to abuse this spirit causes injury
to the game itself. The major responsibility for ensuring
the spirit of fair play rests with the captains.
1. There are two Laws which place the responsibility
for the team's conduct firmly on the captain.
Responsibility of captains
The captains are responsible at all times for ensuring
that play is conducted within the Spirit of the Game
as well as within the Laws.
Player's conduct
In the event of a player failing to comply with instructions
by an umpire, or criticising by word or action the decisions
of an umpire, or showing dissent, or generally behaving
in a manner which might bring the game into disrepute,
the umpire concerned shall in the first place report
the matter to the other umpire and to the player’s
captain, and instruct the latter to take action.
2. Fair and unfair play
According to the Laws the umpires are the sole judges
of fair and unfair play.
The umpires may intervene at any time and it is the
responsibility of the captain to take action where required.
3. The umpires are authorised to intervene in cases
of:
- Time wasting
- Damaging the pitch
- Dangerous or unfair bowling
- Tampering with the ball
- Any other action that they consider to be unfair
4. The Spirit of the Game involves RESPECT for:
- Your opponents
- Your own captain and team
- The role of the umpires
- The game's traditional values
5. It is against the Spirit of the Game:
- To dispute an umpire's decision by word, action or
gesture
- To direct abusive language towards an opponent or
umpire
- To indulge in cheating or any sharp practice, for
instance:
(a) to appeal knowing that the batsman is not out
(b) to advance towards an umpire in an aggressive manner
when appealing
(c) to seek to distract an opponent either verbally
or by harassment with persistent clapping or unnecessary
noise under the guise of enthusiasm and motivation of
one's own side
6. Violence
There is no place for any act of violence on the field
of play.
7. Players
Captains and umpires together set the tone for the conduct
of a cricket match. Every player is expected to make
an important contribution to this.
Further to the above the committee draws the attention
to Law 42 sub 18 this reads,
"If there is any breach of the Spirit of the Game
by a player failing to comply with the instructions
of an umpire, or criticising his decisions by word or
action, or showing dissent, or generally behaving in
a manner which might bring the game into disrepute,
the umpire concerned shall immediately report the matter
to the other umpire. The umpires together shall (i)
inform the player's captain of the occurrence, instructing
the latter to take action. (ii) warn him of the gravity
of the offence, and tell him that it will be reported
to higher authority. (iii) report the occurrence as
soon as possible to the Executive of the player's team
and any Governing Body responsible for the match, who
shall take such action as is considered appropriate
against the captain and player or players, and, if appropriate,
the team concerned."
.
It is the responsibility of the captains to inform the
opposing captain that he feels that a breach of the
Sprit of Cricket has taken place and that he will be
reporting the incident to the League. He must also inform
the two umpires of his intention to do so. He must also
inform them that he may require of them to make a written
statement about their version of the events.
The committee is aware that under the above statements,
it is the Captain's responsibility for the action of
his players during the game and as such may be held
equally accountable for any action that the committee
deems to impose
